Please join The Raise Foundation (OC’s Child Abuse Prevention Council) and our community-wide Blue Ribbon Steering Committee as we kick off the 23rd Annual Blue Ribbon (Child Abuse Prevention) Month campaign on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at Bowers Museum of Cultural Art in Santa Ana. The names of those children who unfortunately died as a result of child abuse will be read and their memory honored at this event. The latest on what is being done to prevent such losses will also be shared.
This year’s kick-off agenda includes a special keynote presentation by Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Yvette Verastegui (a survivor of child abuse). The recipients of the Blue Ribbon and Shining Light Awards will be recognized and Blue Ribbon Art Contest winning entries from youth and college students will be displayed.
The Raise Foundation is dedicated to preventing and stopping the cycle of child abuse and neglect through education, advocacy, community collaboration, and comprehensive services for families and children. The nonprofit has helpful staff in 7 of the 15 family resource centers (FRCs) and provides a unique mobile FRC “Resources In Motion” (RIM) that goes into highly underserved neighborhoods to help at-risk families. The organization also hosts a Prevention & Treatment Conference each March for professionals who work with children (and this year added parent sessions) and with the help of the community, coordinates countywide awareness campaigns such as last summer’s focus on Kaitlyn’s Law.
Since 1974, The Foundation has grown into a dynamic, well-respected, non-profit organization serving all of Orange County.
The goal of The Raise Foundation is to provide resources to strengthen families, making each family’s home a safer place for children to grow up. With over 38,000 cases of reported suspected child abuse and neglect in the county each year, it is clear that prevention programs and services are desperately needed in every part of Orange County community.
A special thank you to those joining us on the Blue Ribbon Steering Committee – Representatives from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), OC Fire Authority, OC Sheriff’s Department, OC Social Services Agency, and assistance from the OC Department of Education.
